The Pittsburgh Pirates trade Octavio Dotel to the Dodgers
The Pirates have traded 36-year old closer Octavio Dotel to the Dodgers for 25-year old reliever/starter James McDonald and 21-year old lefty swinging outfielder Andrew Lambo. Dotel pitched in 41 games (0 starts) for the Pirates this season and he was 2-2 with 21 saves, a 4.28 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. James McDonald has a good arm and the Pirates could use him in either the rotation or the pen. He has pitched in 4 games (1 start) for the Dodgers this season and he is 0-1 with a 8.22 ERA and a 2.09 WHIP. McDonald has now pitched in 53 games (5 starts) in his three years in the majors and he is 5-6 with a 4.11 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. Lambo came into this season as the Dodgers’ #7 prospect according to Baseball America. He has only played in 47 games in AA-ball this season and he is 49 of 181 (.271 avg, .745 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 4 homers and 25 RBIs. His season started late because he was suspended for using PEDs. Lambo has now played in 362 games in his four years in the minors and he is 387 of 1,362 (.284 avg, .797 OPS) with 199 runs scored, 38 homers, 209 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. The Pirates got two quality young players for Octavio Dotel so I will have to give them a thumbs up for this deal.
