The Pittsburgh Pirates rid themselves of 4 pathetic pitchers

The Pittsburgh Pirates have outrighted John Van Benschoten, Ronald Belisario, Yoslan Herrera and Marino Salas to AAA making them all free agents. Van Benschoten might be one of the very worst pitchers ever to step on a major league pitching mound. The 28-year old righthander pitched in 9 games (5 starts) for the Pirates last season and he was 1-3 with a 10.48 ERA and a 2.55 WHIP. Van Benschoten pitched in parts of three seasons with the Pirates covering 26 games (19 starts) in which he was 2-13 with a 9.20 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP. He’s just plain horrible and the Pirates are just glad to clean out his locker for good. 25-year old righty reliever Ronald Belisario never made it to the big leagues with the Pirates and that really says something about what they think of him. He pitched in 38 games (0 starts) in AAA in 2008 and he was 4-4 with 9 saves, a 4.74 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. 27-year old righty Yoslan Herrera only got into 5 games (all starts) with the Pirates last season and he was 1-1 with a 9.82 ERA and a 2.56 WHIP. Herrera allowed 35 hits and walked 12 batters in only 18.1 innings for the Pirates and that was more than enough to convince them to get rid of him. 27-year old righty reliever Marino Salas also got lit up for the Pirates this season. He pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Pirates in 2008 and he was 1-0 with a 8.47 ERA and a 2.29 WHIP. The Pirates won’t miss any of these guys as they all stink big time. I will be stunned if any of these pitchers have any success in their major league careers.
